This is a simple little song I wrote in Athens, OH, about the light that shines through all things; it’s a sort of counter-argument to what can feel like a world that pushes us to earn our right to live.

To think of yourself as in constant competition for a better someday that just might be waiting for you somewhere off in the future - if you do the right thing and make the right moves - is a kind of sickness of the heart.

All these things take us away from the music that’s playing from our back porch, or our living room, or the laughter of our kids or nieces or nephews, or the beauty of a sunrise, or our actual love for our craft or skill or job this world tries to turn into a kind of slavery. I’ll write songs because I love writing songs, and dance to dance, and talk to talk, and I’ll do that in a camper, or a hotel, or a tent, or wherever. Rich or poor.

Joy is not earned, it secretes from every moment by virtue of my being present in it. In this way - every moment deserves to wear the crown of life; or rather, it already wears it, and our being distracted by what games we feel we’re required to play make us blind to it.

Sit outside, rest. Taste the honey.

Mixed and mastered by Fred Miller.

Huge thanks to everyone for giving this a listen. I’m currently nomad, traveling, writing songs wherever I end up.

I have another new song dropping next month, too. 🍯 Stream: https://music.kaistraw.com/honey

Lyrics: I’ve been living on an island

Like I’m living on silent

It’s got me feeling some type way

I see the river is violent

They want me living inside the

race to win my holidays

This world is goal posts

The cost is overload

Speed up, stop, no, keep going

They say: don’t waste your time

I say: Good day and goodbye

I wanna be overflowing

So everything I do

On my one’s and two’s

Is the heaven that a fella can’t lose

I’m getting honey that they devil ain’t selling you

And everything I be

On my one, two, feet

Is the heaven that the teller can’t see

I’m making butter that the devil ain’t sellin’ me

Mm, like peaches in season

Trees where the breeze is

I found the melody for my notes

Mm, here’s eve, my eden

Let’s sink our teeth in

This fruit is our summer home

‘Cause this world is goal posts

The cost is overload

Speed up, stop, no, keep going

They say: don’t waste your time

I say: Good day and goodbye

I wanna be overflowing

So everything I do

On my one’s and two’s

Is the heaven that the teller won’t choose

I’m making butter that the devil ain’t selling you

And everything I be

On my one, two, feet

Is the heaven that the teller can’t see

I’m making butter that the devil ain’t sellin’ me

So give me love

Give me hope

Give me chill

Give me fun

Give me nope

To every poor man in a rich man’s coat

trynna tell me I’m broke

And give me love

Give me strength

To kill

What is not

From the place

Of the saints

Show me what is good

What is great

What is

Honey

Show me what is right

What is whole

What is honey

I live for what is light

What is gold

What is honey
